AVANCE - El Paso is a community-based nonprofit organization delivers a number of programs designed to develop positive educational outcomes for both parent and child.

The Parent-Child Education Program serves highly vulnerable, low-income families with children birth to 4 years of age at 21 sites across El Paso County. Housed within neighborhood elementary schools, the program provides high quality Early Childhood Development programming while parents and/or caregivers learn to meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of their children and to see themselves as their children’s first and most important teachers. In addition, parents learn to discover their value not only as a parent and family member but as a member of the community.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes are available for parents who attend the Parent-Child Education Program or have already graduated from the program. ESL classes focus on helping those parents with a minimal command of English, develop the ability to communicate effectively enabling them to gain employment or further their education. Classes are held at multiple locations throughout the network of AVANCE classrooms. Computer literacy is an additional component built into the program.

General Education Diploma (GED) classes aim to prepare parents without a high school diploma to take the tests in order to obtain their GED. These classes are held at eight of our schools. Additional classroom time is also made available for the children of these students.
