Avian Haven was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in 1999. Since that time, its annual case load has increased from about 300 birds to about 3,000 birds, making it one of the largest avian rehabilitation practices in New England. All told to date, roughly 26,000 birds from more than 100 species have been treated at Avian Haven. The center has 25 outdoor flight cages designed for a variety of species ranging in size from hummingbirds to eagles. There is also an indoor year-round aquatic bird facility, plus a three-season enclosed outdoor pond.
We treat wild birds that are orphaned, sick, and/or injured, with a goal of release back to natural roles in the wild. We work with several consulting veterinarians, and have on-site capabilities for procedures that include radiography and surgery.
