Avian Haven was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in 1999. Since that time, its annual case load has increased from about 300 birds to about 3,600 birds, making it one of the largest avian rehabilitation practices in New England. All told to date, roughly 35,000 birds from more than 100 species have been treated at Avian Haven. The center has 25 outdoor flight cages designed for a variety of species ranging in size from hummingbirds to eagles. There is also an indoor year-round aquatic bird facility, plus a three-season enclosed outdoor pond. We have spaces dedicated to turtle care, and treat an average of 50-60 turtles per year.

Avian Haven cares for wild birds and turtles that are orphaned, sick, and/or injured, with the goal of release back to natural roles in the wild.  We work with several consulting veterinarians, and have on-site capabilities for procedures that include radiography and surgery.
