Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics

Help more than 900 pediatricians and health care professionals serve Arizona’s children through direct medical services provided to those kids who fall through the cracks; advance early literacy initiatives to make sure our children are book lovers early and often, and that key initiatives to support the quality care and well-being of all children – including safety and childhood obesity efforts – shape a strong and vibrant future for our state.

• Hundreds of children get chronic care when Pediatricians and specialists open their offices to see and care for those who might never get an earache treated, a broken bone fixed, eyeglasses to see the chalkboard, or special needs met.

 

• Thousands of Arizona families are getting schooled on the importance of reading daily when their Pediatrician voluntarily includes an early literacy initiative into well-child visits from 6-months to 5-years of age.  Families go home with an age and culturally appropriate book after every visit – resulting in 10 free books – even before they ever step foot in kindergarten.  The doctors serve as the frontline to combat illiteracy in our state. 

 

• Car seat and vaccine legislation helps keep our kids safe from accidents or public health concerns.  Coordinated care efforts help families tap into the services they may need when dealing with multiple medical or live issues that impact the success and well-being of their children and families.  Potential lifelong health issues are addressed through childhood obesity experts working to change how we set up our children for success.
