The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Since 1965, the agency's evidence-based programs have empowered children to achieve educational success, avoid risky behaviors, set higher aspirations, and develop greater confidence and better relationships. Each child ("Little") is intentionally paired with a pre-screened and trained volunteer mentor ("Big") who shares similar interests. Through positive relationship development and role modeling, each mentor empowers a child to reach their fullest potential in spite of the challenges and obstacles they face. Professional case managers provide ongoing guidance and support to every relationship to help ensure child safety, positive relationship development, and strong youth outcomes. In 2015, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh served 1,400 children across Allegheny, Greene, and Washington counties through three core programs: Community-Based, Site-Based, and mentor2.0. The agency is among the top-performing youth mentoring affiliates nationwide, recently earning the Agency of the Year and Board of the Year awards from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
