Brenham GameChangers

A nonprofit organization

We are a team of people who have changed our attitude to make a difference. Brenham GameChangers is a movement across our great city and county to make a difference in people's lives. A difference for just a moment in time or a difference that reshapes the way they live for a lifetime. Our statement is, we are a team of people who have changed our attitudes to make a difference.

BGC started providing student activity need-based scholarships in August 2018. These scholarships are for local students (Pre-K through 12th grade) for local activities. Brenham GameChangers has awarded over 460 scholarships in the amount of $63,056 since Fall 2018 for students in Pre-K through 12th grade!! The scholarships are in the activities of: Washington County Little League, Washington County Soccer, Cub Scouts, Dance at local studios, Brenham Children's Chorus, Washington County Youth Football League, Brenham Youth Football, Cheer at local gyms, Swimming, Boys and Girls Club, Volleyball, Basketball, academic tutoring, summer camps, JAM, BTXLA, Brenham Pride Track Team, and academic trips! If you know anyone who has a financial need and wants to participate in a youth activity, please share the scholarship application with them. The Reason Brenham GameChangers Provides Scholarships
Research shows that students who are in extracurricular activities, after-school programs and youth organizations/events show positive improvements in academic, education, social, civic, and physical development. Students want to participate because of excitement, enjoyment, and to be with peers. However, not all students and their families can afford the activity. There is consistent and strong evidence between participation and academic achievement, school completion, post-secondary educational attainment, lowered rates of smoking and drug use, and the quantity and quality of interaction between students and their parents. (Society for Research and Child Development, 2006; Developmental Psychology, 2008; BMC Public Health, 2015). The summary of research is found at:

Testimonials

Brenham GameChangers has awarded over 460 individual student scholarships in the amount of $63,056 since Fall 2018 for students in Pre-K through 12th grade. Students can participate with their friends, make new friends, use their talents, and gain confidence with a team as they learn new skills to build upon.
Prior to a Covid year, over 40 students participated in a 2-day training for resume writing, interview etiquette, and mock-interviews. Brenham GameChangers worked with a class at Brenham High School to learn from Sam Houston State University Career Services counselors in one period about how to dress, typical interview questions, and how to create a simple resume. The second day, the students interviewed with local business people for a mock interview. Students left each session with basic knowledge and confidence for their first job interview opportunity, and a connection to a local leader in town. We have hopes to re-instate this program again in the 2021-2022 academic year.
Brenham GameChangers has partnered with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce to coordinate the core values used in the school district with local businesses through the PEACE program. Local businesses are given the core value and leadership examples and training to promote and encourage the value with staff and customers. The Washington County Chamber is the first chamber in the country to connect the core values from the local school district to the community. This creates a common language for students and families as they teach, encourage, and model the core values.
Prior to a Covid year (the previous two years), Brenham GameChangers provided an etiquette lunch for 80 Brenham High School students. The students are in the AVID program. This program helps close the opportunity gap for all students to be prepared for college, career, and life. Students left the luncheon with basic table, phone, and social skills they did not know before. We have hopes to re-instate this program again in the 2021-2022 academic year.
Because of the pandemic, we provided several ways to help the community since student activities had been cancelled and we were not distributing scholarships...
