About Us

Since 1900, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque has been a vital part of the community, committed to supporting and enriching the lives of at-risk youth. We serve as a safe haven for children in Dubuque, particularly those from low-income families.

Our Mission

Our

mission is to provide a nurturing environment where children can develop essential educational, social, and leadership skills. We aim to empower our members to become responsible, productive, caring and positive citizens. Through our programs, we focus on health and wellness, education, and character development, ensuring that every child has the tools they need for a successful future.

Addressing Food Insecurity

Recognizing the critical need for consistent, nutritious meals, our Meal Program ensures that no child goes hungry. Serving 66,743 meals in 2023 alone, we help combat food insecurity by providing daily meals and snacks during afterschool and summer hours at our club and throughout the community. This initiative allows our members to concentrate on their personal and educational growth without the worry of their next meal.

A Hub for STEAM and Brain Health

We place a strong emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) to prepare our youth for future careers in these fields. Our club features dedicated spaces for STEAM learning and a new Brain Health Room coming June of 2024 that will offer a judgment-free zone for emotional and mental development.

Healthy Habits and Community Engagement

Our Healthy Habits Program educates members about nutrition and physical activity, enhancing their overall wellness. We also encourage family engagement through monthly meals and shared activities, fostering stronger community ties and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Scholarships and Financial Support

With 85% of our members coming from low-income households, we strive to make our programs accessible to all. Nearly 90% of our members benefit from scholarships that cover their annual membership fee, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation.

Special Child Christmas

Funded by the Larry and Laura Herrig Designated Fund for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque, our Special Child Christmas event brings the joy of the season to our members. Each year, donors can contribute specifically to this fund, supporting a festive celebration where volunteers from around Dubuque join us for a special Christmas party. During this event, children enjoy a day of free shopping around Dubuque and receive essential winter items like hats, gloves, and coats. It's a memorable day filled with warmth and community spirit, emphasizing the generosity of our supporters.

Join Us in Making a Difference
