Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History

A nonprofit organization

As the ONLY Natural History Museum in the area, we elevate, motivate, and inspire visitors by showcasing the best of Earth in Nature, Science & History. The Museum promotes science and natural and cultural history education, while encouraging responsible stewardship of all natural and cultural resources. The Museum provides educational programming (exhibits, camps, classes, lectures, outreach, tours, & special events) and safeguards artifacts and natural specimens for future generations.

The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History displays traveling and in-house exhibits, and hosts tours, lectures, meetings, classes, and special events. Educational programs for children include Nature Camps (held every spring/winter break, and summer), educational birthday parties, school field trips to the Museum, and outreach preschool and K-12 programs presented in area schools. Discovery kits covering a broad range of science and history-related subject matter are available to teachers, home school groups, scouts, and others for use in augmenting classroom education.

Our programs utilize the Brazos Center Park, the adjacent Nature Trail, and the Boonville Heritage Park. Educational programs for adults include teacher workshops, classes, evening lectures, and exhibit opening presentations. Programs for families include our popular Boonville Days Heritage Fair, Chuck Wagon Lunch and Buffalo Stampede Races, Wish Upon a Butterfly event, Holiday Showcase, and numerous outreach booths at local festivals and educational fairs.

Testimonials

This place is a treasure! They make learning fun, and you learn at your own pace. Lots of interesting things for pre-k all the way to grey haired seniors. -Emile Soulier

Fantastic place! The exhibits are informative and well curated. They offer great community activities including an annual race and Boonville Days festival, a butterfly release, and summer nature camps for kids. The director and the staff really care about the community. -Erika Nealey

The museum is a gem here in the Brazos Valley. One of my favorite annual events in Brazos County is Boonville Days at the Museum, with hands-on exhibits, the chuckwagons, and artisan stalls. I recommend it highly. -Nicholas B. Suntzeff
