Bagong Kulturang Pinoy Inc

We started in 1998 when our founder, Rowena Jimenez, left Massachusetts to go back to Manila to live with her three children. The children in the neighborhood did not have access to books, so she started read-aloud sessions and a mini-library in her home. She returned to Massachusetts to live in 1999 and I, along with other friends, helped her to form BKP inorder to establish other libraries in impoverished areas. Most of our libraries have been initiated by Filipinos living here, in their home towns. We are an all volunteer organization. Approximately 90% of the money we raise goes toward shipping used children's books to the Philippines. To date we have started approximately 200 mini-libraries and we now have chapters in New York City and San Diego.
