For more than twenty years, Baja Bound has been involved in building houses for the families of the working poor of Baja.  They are primarily the indigenous people who come up from Oaxaca or Chiapas to work in the fields, greenhouses, and packing houses in Maneadero, just south of Ensenada.  The typical laborer works 6 days a week (when work is available) for around $11-12 a day, and it is all they can do to feed their family and scrape together enough money for a down payment on a small parcel of land.  They build makeshift huts with dirt floors, walls made out of scrap wood and cardboard, and a roof of plastic sheeting.  We help groups of people, mostly Americans, to raise the funds for, and then build houses for these families.  We provide guides, translators, construction supervision, lodging and food, and can include additional opportunities for service, including visits to an orphanage or helping out with a community feeding program in the area.  We encourage you to participate on any level you can, as a donor, pulling your own group together for a house build, or coming along on one of our other team builds.  Visit our website at www.bajabound.org for more information.
