Saving Rural Obstetrics

The region of Western Wisconsin is facing an obstetrical desert as the need for maternal health services increases. River Falls, Barron, Menomonie, Eau Claire, and Chippewa Falls have all closed their birth centers over the last two years and Western Wisconsin Health is doing everything possible to keep our doors open! There are fewer facilities families can travel to safely to seek obstetrical services and deliver their babies, yet St. Croix County is the fastest growing county in the entire state of Wisconsin. This has become a crisis that WWH wants to address ensuring access and availability to care for residents of our rural communities. Without these services, women have limited or no options to safe labor and delivery of their newborns close to home. 

With an anticipated 400 plus births at WWH in 2024 (276 in 2023), we are expanding our staff as well as adding birth center rooms to care for our families and their little ones.  These expansions will allow our patients to receive exceptional, personable, and safe care. The completion of these rooms with equipment, furniture, and fixtures is incredibly important to provide our patients with a safe labor and delivery experience.  In addition, WWH encourages the integration of a birthing tub, birth swings, birthing balls, and more to provide a unique experience which allows mother, partner, and baby to be empowered with birthing options and a positive, memorable delivery.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 through GiveBig 2024.  We hope you will consider a donation to help us reach our goal and serve our patients.
