Balsz School District is located in a pocket of land between Papago Park and Sky Harbor International Airport, stretching south of Thomas Road to the Salt River.

It’s a small school district, but it’s making a name for itself – and more importantly, a future for its students and their families.

Students in the district are mostly minority and their parents are the working poor. More than 91 percent of our kids qualify for free or subsidized lunch and 75 percent of the children entering kindergarten struggle to speak English.

The Balsz Community Education Foundation was created in 2011 to raise funds for Balsz Schools. We give mini-grants to teachers who apply for a special program or classroom project. Third-graders  and their parents attend monthly Book Breakfasts as part of the Kids Read initiative – and each student goes home with their own book.

BCEF has joined with the Balsz Promise Neighborhood in bringing community members together to solve problems and promote community pride.

In the past three years, Balsz teachers, principals and our superintendent have been honored with the highest awards from Rodel and the Arizona Educational Foundation. Our schools have shown consistent improvement.

We are on a roll, and excited about the future for the students we serve. And while teachers and principals and foundations like ours can do a lot, it takes support and money from people like you to ensure success.

If you care about improving public education, we do too. We promise your donation will be put to immediate and important use. Thank you for giving.
