BAMA Kids, Inc. developed in 1993 from a group of volunteers who were concerned about  juvenile offenders in their community. The catalyst was the killing of a nineteen-year old as he was allegedly invlolved in an after-hour robbery. The result was a colation for youth development that has evolved into a comphrehensive program that has served hundreds of children over the past 20 years.

The mission of BAMA Kids, Inc. is to improve the well-being educationally, emotionally and physically of youth, by combining organized recreational and educational activities, by developing and promoting life skills to prevent substance abuse and other harmful activities.

BAMA Kids program components are designed to build an environment of resiliency, family and community support: Tutoring with life and social skills four day per week; an annual summer enrichment program which includes cultural arts; mentoring , family support and advocacy are the core of the BAMA Kids program.

BAMA Kids has been sucessful in recruiting high-risk youth to its program, maintaining a long-term relationship with them and making a significant impact on their lives.

Wilcox County has been cited as the 15th poorest county in the Nation. It is void of many resources that others enjoy and take for granted. There are no Boys and Girls Club, no YMCA and few organizied recreational or social activities for youth.  The unemployment rate is at an all-time high.  There is no United Way in Wilcox County.  Contributions through other avenues are the life-line of this organization.  This years Budget cuts has made it difficult to survive. Each and every dollar goes a long way.
