Here is all you wanted to know about Basics for Local Kids!

What do we do? We collect and distribute basic necessities to kids in need ages newborn through 18 years old living in western Wisconsin. The largest program within our charity focuses on winter-wear. The crisis transition basic necessities program serves as a resource for case workers and school staff requesting basic necessities (clothing, shoes, school supplies, blankets, beds, bedding, etc.) for foster kids, child protective services kids, or students in need.

How long have we been doing this? Basics for Local Kids began in the Fall of 2010. We currently serve and over 800 kids each year with winter-wear and basics necessities. We have served over 7000 local kids to date in Pierce and St. Croix counties.

Where are we located? Our office-boutique is based out of Ellsworth, WI. However, we serve kids in all communities in Pierce and St. Croix counties.

What do we need? Ultimately, we need to magically have enough winter-wear inventory to fit 800+ kids ranging from newborn through 4XL adult sizes with winter coats, snow pants, boots, water-resistant gloves, and hats before we start distributing in October each year. Funding is also important for the high need for new/gently used clothing, gym shoes, school supplies, new bedding, beds, car seats, etc.

How are we funded? While gently used donations make up about 1/3 of our needs, we seek out grants, private donations, church and business collection events, and fundraising opportunities to cover the other 2/3 of the needs for kids.

How can you help? We NEED your awesome support dollars so we can bargain shop for the sizes that don't get donated in adequate quantities. It's unfair to leave a 14 year old in the cold because we are short on size Men's 14 boots, or run out of snow pants for a second grader. Help us meet the needs of local kids.
