Join the Ranks of the Basket Brigade!
Basket Brigade, our Thanksgiving basket assembly event, is held every year in our Lexington warehouse and is one of our most popular events. Where else can you put together Thanksgiving dinner for thousands in just a few short hours?
The 200+ amazing volunteers who participate in the event don't just put in the labor. Many commit to raising funds for the Food Bank as well, and love to compete against other individuals and teams to see who can raise the most!
We appreciate your support and welcome you to participate in the event by donating, setting up your own fundraising page, or volunteering!
Register to volunteer on-site on November 11 by visiting https://basketbrigade2017.eventbrite.com
God's Pantry Food Bank History
In 1955, a concerned citizen named Mim Hunt began distributing food out of the basement of her home to those in need of assistance. Through the years, this small effort grew into the large-scale hunger relief organization that serves 50 Kentucky counties as the state’s largest Feeding America food bank with more than 285 member agencies that operate more than 375 programs.
God’s Pantry Food Bank secures, stores, and distributes food products in Central and Eastern Kentucky. Throughout its 50-county service area, which has a population of 1.4 million people and covers more than 16,000 square miles, God’s Pantry Food Bank partners with churches, community centers, children’s homes, homeless and abuse shelters, soup kitchens and other similar nonprofit agencies that provide emergency food assistance to their neighbors. In fiscal year 2015 the Food Bank distributed 27.2 million pounds of food, including nearly 10 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. That food touched the lives, both literally and figuratively, of more than 200,000 individuals.
God’s Pantry Food Bank is a member of Feeding America. The mission of Feeding America is to create a hunger-free America. Our network includes more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations serving every county in the U.S.
