It is estimated that there are 5 million people in the US who are affected by these common, often co-occurring diseases. 5 million is more than those with MS, lupus or many forms of cancer—yet few dollars are dedicated to their research, and few doctors understand how to diagnosis or treat symptoms.

Dr. Bateman, BHC's founder, watched her sister suffer from ME/CFS and die from a cancer strongly linked to ME/CFS. Her story, and many others like her, is why she founded BHC: to give hope and impact progress. Unduplicated anywhere in the world, BHC, is a nonprofit organization that envisions a world where patients are readily diagnosed, effectively treated, and widely met with empathy and understanding.

Together with a volunteer Board of Directors and a leading national researcher, Suzanne D. Vernon, PhD, Dr. Bateman is working to develop standardized diagnostic tests and evidence-based treatments to improve the lives of millions of sufferers. But while this research is developing, patients need access to qualified care now. With your support, we can increase the number of patients we treat. We can also expand programs that train and educate up-and-coming medical providers to bring about greater understanding and diagnosis.

While care is being provided, patients and their loved ones need hope. Hope comes from education and understanding, from expanded knowledge, from connection and conversation. This is what BHC patient education programs provide. Whether it is the free online e-news, monthly education meetings (livestream or in person), an article on the blog or engaging with the BHC community on social media, BHC is bringing patients together and empowering them with quality information that helps them live better lives today.
