The Bay Area Ridge Trai all started with a man who had a vision—a vision to connect the stunning ridges of the Bay Area with a trail. A trail that would allow the men, women and children of the Bay Area to explore and protect the nearby wild lands that make our home such a unique place to live. Where else do you have world-class cities surrounded so closely by rugged wilderness?

That man was William Penn Mott, Jr., National Service Park Director, and he inspired a grassroots movement known as the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council.

Today, the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council is more than a vision; it is a monumental achievement 27 years in the making. In those 26 years—with the help of supporters like you—we have linked together more than 365 miles of trail for hilers, bikers, runners and equestrians.

To bring trails to completion, the Council collaborates with more than 75 land agencies, secures millions in funding, rallies hundreds of volunteers for construction and provides sustainable world-class trail design with our renowned Trail Steward.

Won't you join us to complete the last 185 miles?
