Begirlworld

bGw was founded in 2014 and is currently based in Philadelphia. Executive Director, Deesha Dyer, and Program Director, Marcella Hudson, decided to combine their love of traveling and their love of uplifting young girls through the power of community and mentorship to create the beGirl.world organization. The organization teaches and exposes the next generation to cross-cultural learning, careers in travel, careers that travel, study abroad programs and overall personal fulfillment and growth that comes from travel.

Throughout the bGw 2-year program, the girls gather monthly with various activities based on culture and travel. Some of 2014-2016 activities included obtaining their passports, making international culinary dishes, guest speakers, mock trip planning, language lessons, field trips and more. Girls are given home assignments that may include anything from learning about different currencies,  interviewing women who are in the travel industry, to practice filling out customs forms.

During the 2014-2016 program, the organization was able to take the girls to Washington DC to tour the White House and meet women that travel on behalf of the US government, and visited embassies in London, UK and Paris, France, to learn more about careers in the State Department. During their time in London, they also had the benefit of staying at a college to learn more about study abroad programs.

Through travel, the goal of beGirl.world is to install independence, strength, courage, inquisitiveness and a sense of positive adventure in teen girls. They are taught that they are not limited by their environment or circumstance.
