Support the Critical Work of Empowering Homeless Families in Belknap County

Belknap House provides families safe shelter when children are especially vulnerable during homelessness, and empowers parents to become self-sufficient, through opportunities of education and access to community resources. We have built strong partnerships, collaborating with more than 50 agencies and resources in support of families' needs. Through direct services, case management, and accountability, we strive to support families with a helping hand-up. This approach requires parents to work hard, and helps them to develop life-changing skills. As a result, families are not only on track to obtain a place of their own, but they are equipped to be better parents, and are poised to be resilient community members.

We are thrilled to share that over the past two months four families residing at Belknap House acquired apartments of their own. This opens to the door to provide new families with the same opportunities to become independent. Your support makes this possible!

Belknap House Celebrates

On March 11, 2017, Belknap House opened its door to welcome their first family seeking safe shelter, a single dad and his son. This was the start of Belknap House operating as a cold weather shelter, serving Belknap County. The father and son successfully acquired housing just before the shelter closed for the season in May, 2017.

Belknap House began operating as a year-round shelter in October 2019. At that time, the Board of Directors had learned of a 43% increase in family homelessness in Belknap County alone and felt it imperative to remain open year-round.
