Benedict House provides emergency beds for 24 single men experiencing homelessness. In addition, the shelter provides 4 additional respite beds for those needing time to recover after medical treatment.
Clean and sober living arrangements are provided in a physically and emotionally safe, dormitory-style environment. Sheets, towels, and toiletries are provided along with showers, laundry, and locked storage.
Residents utilize the common room and kitchen where they can use the computers, read books, watch tv, and drink coffee in a warm, welcoming space. Mail can also be received to reduce barriers toward pursuing stability.
At Benedict House, staff use a team approach when providing support for residents. Each resident arrives with different challenges and needs. Once the initial need for shelter is provided, our staff - working with a case manager- can start working on other issues the resident may have.
Our services include access and assistance with establishing income, health insurance, medical and dental care, legal aid, substance use treatment, and permanent housing. Residents are encouraged to use these services with consistency to support them in securing safe and stable housing.
As a 24-hour shelter, meals are offered three times a day for all residents. Benedict House has a full kitchen where volunteers from the local community are encouraged to come and assist in providing evening meals. All meals are served family-style in the common area.
