Bennet Community Builders Associati On

Bennet Community Builders Association (BCBA) was organized in 1966.  In October of 2015 the group was approved as a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable entity.  Members have completed several projects that have contributed to daily living experiences over the years.  The major effort undertaken was to provide an improved shelter for the village park.  This has been the site for many family celebrations to mark birthdays, graduations, and any other organized special effort intended to recognize their kin for many different achievements.  The shelter provides a focal location for community activities on holidays and has been where the annual ice cream social closes out summers prior to the start of school each year.

BCBA has supported other actions in the vilalge park over the years, including assistance to install play ground equipment for local kids to enjoy.  Each Christmas Season BCBA sponsors a special childrens event with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus being present to greet young and old.  The village park is the locale each Easter Season for the kids to enjoy an opportunity to find over 1,500 candy filled eggs. 

BCBA has been a dedicated supporter for community celebrations starting with a Centenial Cellebration to mark the 100 year birthday of both Nebraska and the village of Bennet.  They have been instrumental in supporting July 4th celebrations that has now taken on a life of it's own to recognize our nation's origins. 

Over the years BCBA has managed and provided an information sign to inform local residents of events at the local schools, churches, or other special efforts that are intended for everyone to enjoy. The current sign requires manual placement of letters and is limited on the extent of information it can carry.  A new project to install an electronic scrolling sign is contemplated.  This project will require a total budget of approximately $25,000 and is our current fund raising consideration.  This sign will expand community awareness and provide an avenue to assure local citizens are closer in tune with area events. 

The primary activity in which BCBA is involved occurs twice a year when orders are taken for Bennet Burgers.  These tasty sandwiches are home made versions of a long standing recipe that features special ingredients.  Advance orders are taken that requires a two day effort to prepare the meat filling and another to bake the buns for the more than 1,200 burgers sold each time.

Other activities in which the BCBA is involved is to keep an adopted mile of the highway clutter free with twice a year clean up actions.  We also contribute to each school prom with involvement in a post prom activity for the local high school.

BCBA has also taken a leading role in other efforts for our community with a recent effort to establish a historical society to preserve artifacts recognizing those who preceded us living in Bennet.
