The news every day tells the story of our struggling schools. More and more children in our area need additional help to learn to read and keep up with their classmates. However, schools have to face this challenge with ever-shrinking budgets. Better Basics is able to help by offering hope to children who need extra support.

Our programs are changing lives every day. For students like Amanda, Better Basics’ programs have offered hope for a bright future. When she first started our HOPE program, her oral language development was very limited and her entire demeanor was sad.  HOPE Center teachers and volunteers worked with her, giving her the attention she needed to excel.  Now, her vocabulary has grown, her self-confidence has improved, and she's becoming successful in her classroom.

As Better Basics continues to grow, reaching more students in need, we look to our supporters to help us face these new challenges.  Please join us as we work to make lasting change in the lives of the children and families we serves, and in turn, an enduring transformation in our community.

Better Basics currently provides teachers, tutors, and volunteers for ten reading and mathematics intervention, summer and after school programs in 36 schools throughout Birmingham, Fairfield, Midfield, Jefferson County, and Talladega County.
