Bexar Audubon South Central Texas

A nonprofit organization

$17,820 raised by 97 donors

Bexar Audubon South Central Texas was formed in 1983 when National Audubon Society members in Bexar County decided that our area needed a local chapter to represent the ideals of environmental protection reflected in the newly formed national organization’s mission. BASCTx continued the legacy of our earlier leaders in protecting habitat for birds and bringing ideas and awareness about our natural environment to both the general public and agencies throughout the area.

We are a diverse and supportive community that values our natural world and works together to ensure a healthy habitat for birds, other wildlife, and people.

Bexar Audubon of South Central Texas (BASCTX for short) is an affiliated chapter of National Audubon Society that serves 10 counties in South Central Texas (National Audubon area W-19): Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson. Any NAS member who resides in area W-19 also belongs to Bexar Audubon. Bexar Audubon encourages its members to become involved with the chapter as it expands its outreach and impact throughout South Central Texas. We welcome donations from anyone who wants to support our work.Bexar Audubon focuses on protecting birds and the ecosystems that they and we depend on.If you’d like to join BASCTx and become involved in our activities, please click here.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote the conservation of habitat for birds, other wildlife, and people; support National Audubon Society's efforts; and encourage responsible local action through education, research, and advocacy.

The Big Give

Bexar Audubon Society is setting a big goal of raising $5,000 during The BIG Give as we have secured a dollar for dollar matching grant up to $5,000 which will put us at $10,000!

A $30 gift will support our NEW Spanish/English bird walk program.

  • Starting on October 11th, join us at Woodlawn Lake for a bird walk in Spanish and English!!

A $75 gift will pay transportation costs for a bird survey team member to survey a private property being conserved for birds.

  • 95% of Texas is private property with limited or no access to birders which hinders the scientific data collection on bird populations, range, and migration status.  Birding for a Purpose is designed to gain access to large acreage private lands for structured bird surveys.  The travel is usually far for the intrepid expert birds who participate.  Your contribution can help offset that cost.

A $100 gift will pay for workshop materials for one community outreach.

  • Bexar Audubon is active in community events and educational activities throughout our region.  We provide information booths at festivals, assist Texas Master Naturalist training on birds, meet with local decision makers and community leaders about bird conservation.  In all of these, we provide materials such as pamphlets, notebooks, books, and rack cards to provide impact and sustainable guidance for further action.

A $500 gift will help fund a mini-grant through our mini-grant program.

  • This program provides grants from $100-$1000 for community projects in our 10-county region that further the goals of Bird City Texas.   The goal is to encourage people to protect birds and their habitats while increasing public awareness of the benefits of bird conservation with “hands in dirt” projects.
