Beyond the Block NYC

Beyond the Block NYC is a dynamic 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to empowering inner-city youth ages 12-18 by offering transformative programs that broaden their horizons beyond the confines of their neighborhoods. Our mission is to cultivate positive youth development, foster the next generation of future leaders, reduce gun violence and ensure that every participant is equipped for college or trade school.

Beyond the Block NYC was founded in response to the pressing challenges that young people in underserved communities face every day. Across New York City and in countless other urban areas, systemic inequities have limited access to opportunities for black and brown youth, particularly older adolescents. Many of these young people grow up in environments where cycles of poverty, violence, and disinvestment create significant barriers to success. Without access to enriching experiences, mentorship, and supportive networks, the risk of disengagement from school, involvement in violence, and limited future prospects increases dramatically.

To do this, Beyond the Block NYC focuses on three pillars: professional development, youth programming and community engagement. Our  professional development offerings expose participants to career opportunities such as STEM, arts, and healthcare. Through college fairs, corporate office tours and professional panels, our participants gain insight to pathways that may have once felt inaccessible. Our youth programming provides mentorship, cultural immersion, and life-skills workshops. Lastly, our community events allow us to respond to neighborhood needs and ensure that families have the resources needed to thrive.

In just three years, Beyond the Block NYC has engaged over 1,500 youth and community members through community events, workshops, and field trips. We have received the Safe in the City grant from New York City's Office of Neighborhood Safety, partnered with notable organizations and companies such as Snapchat, Kids FootLocker and WOODstack.
