Our mission is to document and preserve Black heritage, culture, and scholarship and use it to encourage, empower, and uplift current and future generations through scholarly engagement, art, and artistic expression, while cultivating critical thought.

Our vision: Finding our way back to the positive aspects of Black heritage & culture while preserving it for future generations, and engaging in all that we find to uplift, bring unity, and foster peace.

The BHMACC organization’s cultural way of being is now showing itself as how we, as a country of communities, are getting through this crisis in unity and sanity.  In our efforts to help build a free and just civil society, BHMACC moves toward freedom, scholarship, diversity, artistic, and economic development for everyone. But whether it is the Friday night talent shows, the college representatives’ pep rallies that opened each College Round-Up, even the fish fry’s after our events, we know that community coming together to make it all work for everyone and help get us through to the other side is what it takes.

The Black Heritage Museum & Cultural Center has always moved forward as a part of the collective community. Some may have not understood our continued benevolence during our own times of financial need, but our actions will always reflect our commitment to making sure that members of the communities we serve are moving forward.

We hope that our unique and holistic approach to serving all people uplifts the hearts and minds of those we serve. Ultimately, we hope those who can afford to fund our work recognize that community responses to this current crisis closely reflect the model that we’ve been working from for almost two decades. We did not create the model, but we’ve been working it since our beginning.

We know that our model is not new. Black communities have been living collectively and benevolently since we have been here. It has been one of the ways that we have survived for centuries.
