Bibles For The World founder Dr. Rochunga Pudaite could attest to that truth because he was born into what had been the most fierce head-hunting tribe in northeast India!
In 1910, a missionary brought a single copy of the Gospel of John in a language the Hmar tribe could understand, but not read. Nevertheless, several men became believers in Christ, among them Rochunga's father. His prayer was that one day someone would translate the Bible into the Hmar language. Rochunga accomplished that task after years of education that took him to Wheaton College at the invitation of Dr. Billy Graham.
Seeing how God's Word transformed countless lives within his own tribe, Rochunga determined that "everyone should have the Bible in their own language," and Bibles For The World was begun. Since 1971, Bibles For The World has provided Scriptures in more than 115 nations to some 20 million people -- the legacy of one man's journey from head-hunter to heart-hunter!
Bibles For The World has impacted countless millions of lives across the globe, but has concentrated efforts in India and surrounding nations. The ministry has built and maintains 36 Christian elementary and secondary schools, plus a Christian College & Seminary to provide young people Christian values and quality education -- the better to impact the nation of India. Thousands of students receive help from North American "sponsors" -- caring people who invest in the lives of boys and girls, and young men and women, who would otherwise continue to live in poverty and ignorance.
Caring for people in poverty has extended to providing low-cost (and often free) healthcare at BFTW's Sielmat Christian Hospital. An 80+ bed facility, the Hospital can serve hundreds of patients each week -- and, through free medical "camps" held in various locations, thousands more receive care who would otherwise go without.
At the core of each Bibles For The World outreach is the power of God's Word to not only impact people's lives -- but to change them for eternity!
