Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Alabama

My 5th grade teacher told me "you would lose your head if it wasn't tied on".  I believed her.  A boy told me "you are ugly".  I believed him.  Some girls I liked didn't like me back, so I believed I should play alone.  My Mom and Dad love me but they are busy, and besides, they wouldn't understand....but I have a friend that comes to my school on Thursdays to visit. They call her "a mentor". I'm not sure what that means but she smiles and asks me questions about my week; we play games and look at pictures in books; I tell her I get confused and she assures me that I am capable and that there is nothing I can't do. I believed her! My grades are getting better since she started visiting. I am smiling more. I'm learning how to be a good friend like she is to me.  My life is pretty good now!
