Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta

Matching kids with caring, committed mentors changes lives. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, it is our mission to create and support mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We need your help finding mentors for the hundreds of children on our waitlist. It costs Big Brothers Big Sisters about $1,500 to create each Match. Our goal is to raise $8,000 with the help of 100 volunteers aka Bigs. Can we count on you? 

Little Brother Amir and Big Brother Brandon have been matched since 2012. Amir was having a difficult time in school and was failing his classes when his parents reached out to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Within the first year of the match, Amir made the honor roll and received both a citizenship award and the Academic Excellence Medal from his school. Brandon has been assisting Amir with his academic work ever since.

Brandon and Amir have also worked through challenging life events. “It was different talking to someone who was not a relative at first,” Amir explains, “and I didn’t understand why he [Brandon] wanted to spend time with a kid he did not know. It was a struggle for me to understand this and to be expected to follow the lead from a man who was not my father. However, there was a turning point during our match, when both of my grandfathers and father passed away and it was a challenging time for me and my family. Brandon was able to be there throughout it all and has become that one person I can always count on for support.” 

With the help of our donors and generous volunteers, 1,338 kids (Littles) were matched with a mentor (Big) in 2022. Ninety-eight percent of Littles were promoted to the next grade on time and did not become involved in the juvenile justice system. Each gift gets us closer to matching each child on our waitlist with a Big. Your generosity can make a world of difference for one Atlanta child.
