Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wash Co Maryland Inc

     The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, MD, Inc. (BBBS) is to help children and youth reach their full potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with mentors. The agency strives to build successful mentoring relationships for at-risk children and youth, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities. The mentor and mentee are matched based on the mentee's specific needs and the common interests of the mentee and the mentor. The agency supports these at-risk children and youth in their healthy and functional growth into adult members of society and their community. Finally, BBBS assists children and youth in their social, educational, emotional, and character development. Through these one-to-one friendships, the program has helped hundreds of children and youth increase their self-confidence, reach their full potential, and see themselves - often for the first time - as having happy and successful futures. 

     Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, MD, Inc. has been serving children and youth in our local community since 1956. The Community-Based Mentoring Program has been offered since 1956. In 2002, the Site-Based Mentoring Program was introduced. Finally, in an effort to increase recruitment, the Sports Buddies Program, which is an extension of the Community-Based Mentoring Program, was added in 2012. Policy and program guidelines are established by a community-based Board of Directors.  The agency is affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and follows national program standards and procedures.
