Many children grow up without the time, attention and direction they need from caring adults. We seek to facilitate these relationships through private, non-profit organization, screened volunteers who act as friends, mentors and role models to school-aged children, predominately from single-parent homes. These relationships are maintained and monitored by a professional staff.
We help kids in Camp Verde, Chino Valley, Clarkdale, Congress, Cornville, Cottonwood, Dewey-Humboldt, Lake Montezuma, Jerome, Mayer, Paulden, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Sedona, Skull Valley and Village of Oak Creek.
Our Goal, on Arizona Gives Day, is to raise enough funds in one day to match at least 20 children to qualified and caring Bigs. Please help up by logging on during Arizona Gives Day on April 9th, 2014.
YBBBS serves at-risk children ages 5-17 (or through high school graduation) residing in 19 communities, providing mentoring services in 72% of public schools and 25 charter schools in rural Yavapai County and Sedona, Arizona. At-risk children targeted by YBBBS mentoring programs include those who generally: reside in a single-parent home; live in an outlying area; lack a positive role model; are at risk of academic failure; exhibit patterns of risky behaviors; have witnessed abuse or have been abused; are in need of emotional support or present other significant academic, emotional or social needs. Last year alone, the organization supported over 800 Community-based and School-based matches.
Matched Little Brothers between the ages of 14 - 17 years were, on average, 53% less likely to be arrested than all other boys in the same age group.
*These statistics are more powerful in light of the fact that over 90% of the children served by Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters come from single-parent or other than parent homes (foster homes, relatives, grandparents). Research has consistently shown that children from single-parent and other than parent homes are 2 to 3 times more likely to get into trouble with the law.
