Join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah to defend the potential of Utah's children. Our Bigs, Littles, parents, guardians, donors, board, and staff work together to ignite the power and promise of youth through one-to-one mentorship.

In the past 30 months, BBBSU provided mentoring and support to 1,417 children across Utah, 86% of whom come from families with low incomes and 72% of whom identify as Black, Indigenous, or children of color.

In 2023, BBBSU actively supported mentorship programs for 103 youth throughout Summit and Wasatch Counties.

Meet a Match

Little Sister, Melissa, was born and raised in Mexico. She moved to Utah when she was in the 4th grade. Melissa knew no English upon moving to Utah. While attending Park City elementary schools she would shy away from students who did not speak Spanish.

Melissa was matched with her Big Sister, Amy, in the BBBSU Site-Based Program. Amy is a Park City High School student who is involved in numerous school clubs including cheerleading, dance team, and a leadership role in Latinos in Action.

Early in the match Little Sister, Melissa, was very comfortable with Big Sister, Amy, because Amy spoke Spanish. Amy recognized that Melissa was uncomfortable with any non-Spanish speaking students. Amy began to pair up with non-Spanish speaking matches in group activities to help ease Melissa into interacting with children of different cultural backgrounds.

Melissa is now in seventh grade and still matched with her Big Sister. Melissa's best friend in the program is a seventh grade student of Asian Pacific Island descent. Every week, Melissa is seen walking to program with this other student and sitting together during group activities. Melissa recently said she plans to join the Latinos in Action Club when she enters Junior High just like her Big Sister Amy.
