Bingham County Humane Society

A nonprofit organization

The Bingham County Humane Society is an all volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that runs exclusively on donations and the occasional small grant. That means every dollar counts and every dollar goes directly to the care of our kitties (shelter, food, medical care) and our Spay/Neuter/TNR program! Bingham County is blessed with generous veterinary clinics that allow us to sell low cost spay and neuter vouchers to assist Bingham County residents in financial need. BCHS also pays money towards every cat voucher to further assist in the savings to encourage people to spay/neuter their cats. The veterinarians and the Bingham County Humane Society do this to help end the suffering and needless euthanasia of healthy and treatable cats and dogs in Bingham County.

BCHS has a small cat only shelter that assists the residents of Bingham County in rehoming companion cats and unwanted kittens. We typically house between 30-60 cats.

We spay/neuter, vaccinate, deworm, and microchip every cat in our care. We do not euthanize any cats/kittens to make room. BCHS also takes back any cats that have been adopted out if the adopter finds they cannot keep the kitty. We become very attached to our kitties and want to ensure they live long, happy, healthy lives. We adopt from our shelter and also from the Idaho Falls PetSmart, which is about 40 minutes away from us.

Bingham County is a large, rural county located in southeast Idaho. BCHS is one of only two shelters in the county, the other shelter is the municipal shelter that houses cats and dogs. Dogs are very popular in our county and get adopted readily, but cats are seen mostly as a working animal (mouser) or as a nuisance unfortunately. The municipal shelter has very limited space for cats. So many cats are dumped at other locations or killed after multiplying because they are not cared enough about to get sterilized. There is a huge over population problem and high kitten mortality rate in our county. BCHS works to combat this problem by paying more on the TNR vouchers than we do on the regular vouchers.

Bingham County Humane Society also offers education on the importance of stable, TNR’d, community cat colonies and the importance of spaying/neutering pets. We take in the unwanted kittens with the requirement that the mothers get spayed.

We are grateful for any and all donations that help us save and better the lives of cats in our community. Thank you.
