More than 90 years ago, the Sisters of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ obtained permission to start a Catholic high school in the Hammond-East Chicago area. Since 1921, when it opened to great expectations as Catholic Central High School of Lake County, Bishop Noll Institute has been one of Northwest Indiana’s premier college preparatory institutions, drawing students from northwest Indiana and the southeast side of Chicago. More than 19,000 young men and women have entered the doors at 1519 Hoffman Street, received strong and personal attention from a dedicated faculty, and gone on to excel at some of the nation’s elite colleges including Notre Dame, Boston College, Stanford, MIT, Georgetown and The University of Chicago.

Today, Bishop Noll Institute is a Catholic, diocesan co-educational, college preparatory high school serving students in grade 9 through 12.  For over 92 years, Bishop Noll Institute has been committed to excellence in preparing young adults in diverse backgrounds to think critically and become confident, sensitive, Christian leaders capable of adapting and contributing to the world community.  Student development occurs within a process of formation in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as proclaimed in the Catholic Church and a challenging academic curriculum calling each student to his or her highest potential.

Located in Hammond, Indiana, just two miles across the Illinois state line, Bishop Noll has a student population of 512 students.  Thirty-one percent of our students reside in Illinois in the south suburbs as well as the southeast side of Chicago, with the rest of our students residing in northwest Indiana, primarily in Hammond, East Chicago and Gary.  The racial make-up of our students is 30 percent Caucasian, 42 percent Hispanic, 22 percent African American, 4 percent multi-racial, and 1 percent Asian.  Multi-child discounts, scholarships, and financial assistance is provided to 55% of our students, and 38% percent of our students qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. One hundred percent of our students go to two or four year colleges or into the military following graduation.

Your investment in Bishop Noll Institute helps our students live their faith in Christ through ministry, scholarship and leadership. Your generosity provides us the opportunity to offer financial support to deserving students, maintain a quality faculty and enhance student life through upgrades to our technology and our facilities.

Please join us in helping to insure the future success of Bishop Noll Institute.
