Created out of a desire to amplify the voices and experiences of Black persons with Down Syndrome and their loved ones, founders Kelli Caughman and Crystal Lotterberry joined together to form the Black Down Syndrome Association (BDSA). The Black Down Syndrome Association was formed as a non-profit organization in the State of Texas and obtained 501© (3) status as of August 2022. By promoting inclusivity, addressing systemic disparities, and supporting individuals in their journey towards a more fulfilling and equitable life, the BDSA has created a culturally competent safe space for Black persons with Down syndrome and their loved ones. The Black Down Syndrome Association is committed to centering the experiences of Black persons with Down syndrome through the programs that we provide.
