Black Mamas Community Collective

Black Mamas Community Collective (aka Black Mamas ATX)’s mission is to ensure that Black women and birth givers survive and thrive before, during and after childbirth. We envision a world without maternal health disparities. Our goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate the alarming maternal mortality and morbidity rates among Black mothers and birth givers in Central Texas and beyond. Founded in 2018 as Black Mamas Community Collective by Dr. Michele Rountree, Black Mamas ATX is a group of everyday women dedicated to an extraordinary movement to save the lives of Black mothers and birth givers. 

Through programs, increased awareness, training, outreach, and research, Black Mamas ATX is leading the charge in Central Texas to help Black mothers and birth givers get the education and access to resources needed to have healthy pregnancies and birthing experiences. 

Our Black Mamas ATX Sister Doulas provide no-cost, in-person support, and advocating for Black birth givers in the 5-county Austin TX metro area. They start working with clients in their first or second trimester, attend births, and stay with the client for one year postpartum. All clients also have access to culturally congruent mental health support from local therapists and wraparound support to address some social determinants of health.

Our Black Mamas ATX Sister Circle Community has both an online and in-person presence. We provide:

- no-cost online workshops available to Black women and birthing folx everywhere. 

- in-person community-building events like Mamas Meetups and GirlTrek walks

- Soothe Your Nerves anxiety support groups.

We are a group of everyday women dedicated to an extraordinary movement to save the lives of Black mothers and birth givers. Black Mamas ATX is pushing forward with the conviction that we deserve safe, healthy, joyful, and thriving pregnancies, families and communities.
