At Blindness Support Services we train people who are blind with specialized equipment and computer programs. We take in various kinds of blind persons with a wide variety of needs. Whereas some are in need of mobility training, others need independent living skills training. We also have two adjustment to blindness peer support groups that facilitate people who have lost their sight and are in need of group counseling.

We have a blind children's department where preschool age blind or visually impaired children are taught with tactile learning props and teaching tools as a precursor to reading Braille.

There is a blind parenting class for parents who are blind and need help with their parenting skills.

We have independent living skills instructors that go into senior citizens' homes and teach these skills to seniors who are blind or have low vision.

There are a lot of different classes and services here at Blindness Support. Our goal is to help people who are blind achieve a higher level of independence, so they can function by themselves in society.

We are always in need of updated software for our computer lab. The specialized programs and software that make the computer accessible to persons who are blind are very expensive. We must stay up-to-date to adequately help our blind patrons who use computers. This is what we need to get along in Today's ever changing environment of technology.

We want to have extra white canes available for Blind patrons who come in to our establishment in need of a replacement. These canes have special tips that need to be purchased seperately. We want to have these on hand for those that are in need of one.

We are in need of a Braille embosser and Braille transcription software that will create Braille from modern computers. We only have one embosser and it does not hook into most computers because it is too old. When transcribing Braille we have to use a very old computer system. At this time we do not have the resources to buy a new embosser.

We can only do so much with the limited resources that we have. Please donate. Together we can better serve the Blind community.
