The Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) envisions a world where no one is forced to give up their homeland and where all Black LGBTQIA+ people are free and liberated. We build and center the power of Black LGBTQIA+ Migrants to ensure the liberation of ALL Black people through Organizing, Base-Building, Strategic Communications, and Long- Term Viability and Sustainability.
We are led by a directly impacted steering committee, staff and consultants, and operate organizing networks in regions throughout the United States, Honduras, and more. BLMP aims to reduce isolation, build leadership, and protect and defend Black LGBTQIA+ migrants from increasing attacks through community-building and healing programs around the country, legal support and deportation defense work, increasing access to services and resources, regional organizing hub networks, and much more.
We build power, community, and knowledge in the U.S. while challenging the role that the United States plays globally in creating the conditions that force us to leave our homelands in the first place. We envision a world without borders, rendering the word “ immigrant” obsolete. A world where all Black people and our loved ones have housing, bodily autonomy, health, and the ability to move and travel freely, with dignity, free of criminalization, anti-Black racism, misogyny, and all forms of transphobia and homophobia.
