On KY Gives Day, we ask you to support our BIG DREAMS and give to our #DreamBigGiveBig Campaign! You can find more information on our #DreamBigGiveBig page on Razoo! Funds raised through this campaign will be designated for studio repairs and improvements which will have a tremendous impact on providing our dancers with the high quality teaching and mentoring characteristic of Bluegrass Youth Ballet's dance education programs. Each day our facility's three studios are heavily trafficked by hard-working, dedicated students who have big dreams and a lot of love for the art of dance. Over 250 children/youth train in our studios each week! Some of them attend Bluegrass Youth Ballet five to six days a week! BYB is often like a second home to many of our students. Funds raised beyond the amount needed for studio repairs and improvements will be used for BYB's Dream Fund.
A pledge of $800.00 matching dollars has been secured for #DreamBigGiveBig. The first $800.00 donated to #DreamBigGiveBig on KY Gives Day will be matched dollar for dollar! Your donation will essentially double!
What is our mission?
Bluegrass Youth Ballet enhances lives by providing dance education in a positive environment for all youth through high quality training, innovative performances, and cultural experiences.
Who are we?
BYB was founded by Adalhi Aranda, originally from Mexico. Ms. Aranda's motivation was to satisfy Lexington's need for a high quality dance education program that would be provided to students in a positive environment. She also wanted a school that would make training youth its focus and would showcase the training and talent of its dancers in cultural and educational performances. Led by Ms. Aranda's vision, BYB became a 501 (c)(3) organization in 2008. Since then, BYB, has established work study and scholarship programs to assist students who otherwise could not pay for a ballet education.
What do we do?
Dance Education: Our Dance Education Program
includes regular season and Summer Programs. This Program represents the primary purpose of our mission and exists to provide high quality ballet and modern dance instruction to students beginning at age two. Our dance education program prepares BYB students for a professional career in dance. However, we recognize that not all students have a professional career in mind. We believe in the development of healthy, well-rounded individuals and encourage students to explore interests outside the studio. We have a positive, nurturing and non-competitive environment where all students can build their self-esteem, self-confidence and respect of self and others. These characteristics foster excellence in all areas of our students' lives. Nearly 300 students participated in our Dance Educ. programs in 2015.
Performances: BYB performs for both public and private schools in surrounding areas as well as for general audiences of all ages. BYB's school shows in 2015 reached over 5,000 school children.
BYB's performances are primarily one-act ballets performed at main stage venues seating between 350 and 1500 audience members. Our shows are well suited for children. Yet, the technical proficiency of the students in the performances makes an enjoyable experience for adults. BYB strongly values the arts, culture, and diversity, and all of these things are reflected in BYB's performances.
Community Outreach: BYB performs at community events, public libraries and holds school workshops. In the 2013-2014 school year we began an Outreach Program called El Ballet Juvenil del Bluegrass, which reaches at-risk youth in the Cardinal Valley area in Lexington. We currently continue this program and our other outreach efforts.
What do we believe?
Dance is an art discipline that, by itself, will educate students in a variety of ways. Bluegrass Youth Ballet believes that the arts in general are a source of well-being.
That learning the art form of dance helps young people develop a sense of dedication, a strong work ethic and become more self-disciplined in all facets of the student’s life.
That access to performing arts enhances individuals (both the participants and the audience) and the community at large. BYB ensures its performance programs are family friendly with respect to cost, duration and content. The goal of each performance is to share the art of Ballet with audiences of all ages from all economic, ethnic and social backgrounds.
That youth are best inspired by their peers. BYB prepares its students to skillfully perform with technical precision and artistry to inspire young audiences from area schools to further investigate and seek out arts related opportunities.
