Established in 2010, the BHS&M is led by a board of 10 volunteers who attend monthly board meetings. We have a very active board, helping with the annual events we host to the community and our 140+ members. Our list of events includes; an annual membership social, Black History Month Celebration, Artifacts Roadshow, Third Grade Standards Field Trip on Transportation, Rocks and Soil, Orienteering and Maps, Preservation SC/Sacred Spaces, Veterans Day Celebration, research projects, as well as many groups using our facility for meetings and gatherings.
We are located in Town Center in the Langford-Nord house which was built in 1904. We are supported by the community, the Town of Blythewood and have worked with SC Humanities, Richland County and the Richland County Conservation Commission as well as the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit on "The Way We Worked". We recently hosted a Central Carolina Community Foundation "On the Table" group meeting at the Langford-Nord house. We have continued this incredible dialog on race relationships in Blythewood through six additional meetings with a very bonded group.
The Blythewood Historical Society and Museum is very committed to bringing purposeful, interesting events and resources to the community to save our stories of the history of the community.
Our "out of town visitors" are from all over, (Canada, New York...) as they come off I-77 and stop by. We bring out the sweet tea or water and spend much time telling our story.
Our Board has many Blythewood residents who have lived here since birth and are very active in the Society. They are only a phone call away to come talk to visitors who have questions on genealogy, Blythewood history and a source of great stories.
