Boards for Bros Inc

Boards for Bros is a product of the legendary Skatepark of Tampa - a place that has been 100% dedicated to skateboarding since 1993. Tampa-area skaters have a long tradition of passing their used equipment on to kids who couldn't afford their own and over time, they noticed that the kids who lived around the Bro Bowl (now Perry Harvey Sr. Park) were always asking to borrow their skateboards. In 2006, they got organized, collected their equipment for months and managed to distribute 100 skateboards to the kids at Christmas. Boards for Bros was born and in 2017 we collected, refurbished, built and distributed skateboards to over 1,500 youth, engaged over 720 volunteers and helped over 20 youth-centered non-profits use skateboarding to engage their clients.

Our goal in 2018 is to give the gift of skateboarding to even more youth in Tampa Bay. We are focussing our efforts in the neighborhoods of existing public skateparks: Jackson Springs (Tampa), Brandon Skatebpark (Brandon), De Soto Skatepark (Tampa), Perry Harvey Sr. Skatepark (Tampa) and the site of a future skatepark in Campbell Park (St. Pete).

These neighborhood-centered projects will engage our skater volunteers to not only be involved in the donation gathering and refurbishment of the equipment, but also in working in the public skateparks to assist with lessons and giving the new skaters a friendly, helping hand.

It is through this volunteer engagement and the giving of skateboards that we manage to impact the lives of our volunteers as well as the skateboad recipients!
