The purpose of the Boise Fire Fighters Local 149 Community Assistance Fund is to support and assist the members of the community in the response district of the Boise Fire Department. The fund is dedicated to the support and education of any member of the greater Boise community who is underprivileged, the victim of sickness and/or tragedy, disabled, homeless or in need. The Community Assistance Fund was started in the fall of 2014. Our 2015 expected budget needs are $15,000.00.

As Boise Fire Fighters we respond to and assist any person who needs our help. We have fire engines, emergency medical training and supplies, hazardous materials equipment etc. Often at the end of a “call for service” we realize that the person or family we just helped could use so much more. The city of Boise provides many things to our department and to the community but is not able to provide the tools or financial resources to provide the type of help that we identify through the course of our interactions with the public.  Many of our citizens would benefit if they had a little extra help and that the help would make a profound impact on their life. This is where the Community Assistance Fund helps out. The Community Assistance Fund provides the financial resources to assist the Boise Fire Fighters Local 149 members in helping those people identified through the course of our work and community stewardship.

The following are annual projects that the Boise Fire Fighters Local 149 works on annually and that the Community Assistance Fund will support;

  • Fire Fighter Operation Warm, more than a coat  – in the last two years we have provided over 600 brand new American made coats to children in need here in the Boise Independent School District.

  • Boise Fire Toy Brigade – Each holiday season we purchase new toys, toiletries and gift cards for sick or homeless children and their families. We support St Luke’s Children’s Hospital, St Alphonso’s Hospital, the Women and Children’s Alliance, and the Boise Women’s and Children’s Homeless shelter.

  • Boise Burnout Fund – Assists those who have lost their home and/or belongings to fire.

Other projects the Community Assistance Fund is working on are;

  • Assisting the Boise Independent School District with shoe vouchers for children in need. These kids are identified by their school counselors and the shoe voucher program helps by giving the counselors the ability to obtain a new pair of shoes for the student when needed.

  • Wheel care ramp purchase and installation – this program is intended to help veterans and the handicapped build or improve access to their homes so that they can have more freedom and a better quality of life.

  • Help purchase necessities lost in home fires – People of limited financial means often lose everything in a fire. Though the Burnout Fund helps with short term lodging and pocket money for victims of fire it is not able to assist those in need with rebuilding basics like stoves, refrigerators etc.
