Idaho Gives Boise Gay Men's Chorus Two Pinkies Up!

Boise Gay Men’s Chorus is Idaho’s first community chorus of its kind.  The mission is to change hearts and minds through creative expression.  Founded in 2013, we are fast growing and becoming a strong non-profit organization in the treasure valley.  We’re known for our outstanding musicianship, creative programming, and increasing state wide community outreach.  Under the dynamic leadership of artistic director Adam Wade Duncan, BGMC sings a wide spectrum of classical and popular music and creates social change by providing a positive, affirming image of the gay and lesbian community.  The chorus performs three main concerts each season, with many events and outreach performances in addition.

BGMC is a fraternity of mutual love and respect for one another.  We want to cultivate a safe place for everyone participating, no matter what sexual orientation, gender, or status. We proudly include LGBTQA men and women in our group and welcome anyone to audition for a singing or non-singing membership.

Our current concert season, called The Lights of Boise,
has been an illuminating transition through various key themes of the LGBT choral movement.  From highlighting the inspirational people in our lives, to swapping gender roles of classic Broadway show tunes, BGMC is showing Idaho that love and respect can come in many forms.  Also, don’t forget that all our performances are ASL Interpreted by our multi-talented member, Thom Dallman.  We do our best to accommodate any situation or requests we can.

Twice this season, BGMC travelled outside Boise to perform outreach concerts in Eastern Idaho.  The chorus performances were greatly appreciated in Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls.  The Boise Gay Men’s Chorus successfully brought diversity and more gay pride to Idaho cities that don’t normally have access to these types of performances.

The chorus proudly sang at the Add the Words Rally on the Ada County courthouse steps last fall, where we all hoped for the words “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” added to Idaho’s Human Right’s Act.  At events, members always take time to meet new people, thank attendees, and share our mission of opening hearts through creative expression!

BGMC is already working hard on our final performance this season, The Lights of the Rainbow, featuring “When I Knew”.  This June concert will be a special performance with an emphasis on the important topics of coming out and anti-bullying. This will be our biggest event to date and we hope our voices reach as many Idahoans as possible.  Led by our MC, Legislator John McCrostie, we want to inspire listeners to develop a greater compassion for each other.  BGMC will keep singing until Idaho is a state where differences are celebrated.

All of our outreach efforts are financially made possible through ticket sales and donations.  Most people don’t realize that only about 30% of a total chorus budget is paid for through concert tickets.  We rely on the generosity of friends, family, and allies to help make our voices heard throughout the great state of Idaho.  As a growing organization, we are just now beginning our one year fundraising effort to attend the 2016 GALA Chorus Festival in Denver, CO.  This event hosts over 200 choral groups and we hope to take as many BGMC delegates from Idaho as we can.  Remember, The Boise Gay Men’s Chorus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and your donations are completely tax deductible.  Please find it in your hearts and minds to help us reach a bigger audience by donating today!
