Bright Horizons began in 1978 as the Norfolk Task Force on Domestic Violence.  The first crisis line was ran from the dining room of Sharyn Nore's home and shelter services were provided by families opening their homes to victims and their children for three to five days.

In 1983, we opened our first shelter in Norfolk.  In 1991, a five bedroom, three bathroom home was purchased for shelter services and offices.  We still use this home as shelter.

In 1992, we officially changed our name to "Bright Horizons Resources for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault" or, in short, Bright Horizons.

In 1995, we recognized the need for an office and shelter in the O'Neill area.  Through support from the O'Neill Family Preservation Team and the community we opened an office and sheter there.

Today, Bright Horizons continues to serve seven counties in northeastern Nebraska: Antelope, Boyd, Holt, Knox, Madison, Pierce, and Stanton.  We offer free and confidential services 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  We offer individual advocacy, support groups, shelter services, assistance filling out protection orders, and criminal justice and legal advocacy.

Bright Horizons also offers community education to youth and adults across our service area.  We are passionately working to end domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence!
