Bronx Lacrosse

Our Mission:

Founded in 2017, we aim to improve educational and life opportunities for underserved students in the Bronx through lacrosse. For more information, please watch this short film about how we got started as an organization.

Our approach: 

Lacrosse is just a fraction of our program. We are a school-based academic program meant to empower youth in the classroom and on the field.  Bronx Lacrosse participants are led by their on site Program Coordinator, who is there as a mentor and runs all lacrosse operations at the school. 

Our program participants have daily tutoring sessions, study halls, book clubs, and reading intervention groups organized by the Program Coordinator & school administrators to help them reach their full academic potential. On weekends our boys and girls have extra curricular trips such as college visits or lacrosse tournaments to give them opportunities outside of the South Bronx. During the summer our program participants get the opportunity to attend different lacrosse summer/adventure camps as well.

Our Impact:

• On average, our students grew two full grade levels in reading and math in span of one year.
• Program participants had a 96% school attendance rate during the 2017-2018 school year.
• All program participants passed all four of the major content classes (ELA, Math, Social Studies, Science).
• All 8th grade program participants graduated middle school on time.

Our growth: 

What started with 20 boys in 2017, we are now servicing approximately 100 boys and girls at our two partner middle schools, Highbridge Green School (09x361) and Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School (09x218).
