Dear Friend and Neighbor,

This past year has been one of the most fulfilling of my tenure as President of Buchanan Hall. We were honored to receive an original painting of the Hall’s namesake, BRIG. GEN. James A. Buchanan, commissioned by his family to grace our foyer greeting all who enter. This incredible gesture was uniquely important because it gave the Board and our Staff a wonderful sense of validation for the tremendous work we put into the Hall. This year we were able to make some serious renovations to keep Buchanan Hall updated, which includes fully refinishing the original floors, restoring the stone steps, repairing the windows, and upgrading our commercial kitchen. This was while we were established in our second year of the Farmer’s Market, providing 26 weeks of consistent fellowship in our gardens while supporting local farmers and merchants; not to mention the live music and delicious crab cakes.

It is our privilege to be stewards of your historic Hall and we are grateful to provide this community with our blood, sweat and tears to keep Buchanan Hall operating at the level we know this community deserves, but we need your Help!

The funds raised by this appeal will subsidize operations during 2023, including much needed renovations and repairs to our historic building, payment of the mortgage, utilities, landscaping, the salary of our part-time Administrative Director Montana Ruffner and our support staff, as well as supporting new community events hosted by the Hall.

Buchanan Hall’s charitable 501(c)3 Mission has been to provide a central location for the Community of Upperville and its surrounding neighbors, to gather in fellowship for community and cultural events. During the recent months, the Hall sponsored the following events:

  • Buchanan Hall Farmer’s Market, Every Wednesday starting in May through October, we invited guests to shop a collective of the best farm and artisan products curated in the heart of Hunt Country, incredible food and wine, all while enjoying Live Music from some of our favorite home-grown performers in our gardens.

  • Piedmont Pride, We have been thrilled by the support for our Pride event. This sold-out experience offers fanciful, campy and bold entertainment, Bottle service paired with the fun and inspired catering from Polished Fox, Hosted by our hilarious master of ceremonies, making it a night to remember rarely offered in hunt country.

  • Family Trout Fishing Day hosted by Orvis & Trout Unlimited, Offering both lessons in fly tying and fly casting from some of the top fly fishing professionals in the area and Capping off the day with a Orvis Original Film, we provide a community experience for all age groups and skill levels. It was a joy to see newcomers to fishing enjoy finding their way as well as seasoned veterans learning something new, all while creating an environment where everyone could find community.

  • The 59th Annual Daffodil Show, an American Daffodil Society-accredited Horticultural competition where thousands of daffodils of all sizes, colors, and forms are submitted by amateur daffodil growers. This has been a Buchanan Hall staple and one we are excited to see continue for future generations.

  • Tour De Conservation Easement presented by Land Trust of Virginia, nothing beats the Tour De Conservation Easement Gravel Ride put on by LToV on the beautiful roads and through gorgeous private properties of Loudoun and Fauquier county. This experience is for the die hard and the fair weathered riders alike, the only prerequisite is a love of this area and a desire to explore it.

We want to make sure we can provide you with a venue that you can take ownership in.      If you need us for a wedding, memorial, quinceañera, or party of any kind, we want to be able to provide a relaxed and elegant space nestled in your hunt county. We have made it a priority to keep our rates for community members extremely affordable, while also having community events that cater to the interest of our guests. To achieve this we rely heavily on our neighbors and Friends to provide whatever support they can.

We ask for your help in supporting this vital civic and cultural Cornerstone of Upperville.
