The Trails & Rails Museum has six historic buildings to tour through, as well as a livery barn, the new JC Marlatt blacksmith shop, and a Union Pacific steam engine and caboose.  The archive building houses the Buffalo County records and is used by researchers world-wide. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 6, 2016 for the new Family History Center and it should be completed in the Spring of 2017.  Join us for several special events through-out the year! The Trails & Rails Museum is located on the original Mormon Trail route (current 11th St.).  The Museum is owned and operated by the Buffalo County Historical Society, which is a not-for-profit, 501C-3 organization.  Please check out www.bchs.us for additional details and special events.

Join us on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 1-5 pm for a free open house inside the depot at the Trails & Rails Museum at 710 W. 11th St. in Kearney.

Donations may be brought to the museum that day or you can pay on-line at https://givewhereyoulive.mightycause.com/story/Buffalo-County-Historical-Society?referral_code=share

All checks have to be made out to the Kearney Area Community Foundation, dated December 1st, and have “Buffalo County Historical Society” on the memo line.

BCHS board members are willing to pick up donations from people who cannot come to the Trails & Rails Museum.

BCHS appreciates your support and we look forward to continuing to serve you by being stewards of Buffalo County’s past!
