About Building Hope Building Commitment (BHBC)

Restoring Stability through Home, Hope, and Partnership

In Charlotte-Mecklenburg as of April 30, 2025, 2,415 men, women, and children are experiencing homelessness—sleeping in cars, tents, or navigating shelters when space allows (Building Hope Building Commitment, Mecklenburg County News). Of these, 444 people are unsheltered, marking the highest unsheltered count since 2010, and a 16% increase over the previous year (Axios).

For far too many in our community, housing is not safe. It’s uncertain. It’s tenuous.

BHBC: Our Bold Response

At Building Hope Building Commitment (BHBC), we refuse to accept homelessness as anyone’s destiny. We are a Black-led, woman-led, faith-rooted 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Charlotte, laser-focused on housing stability, workforce readiness, and community healing.

Here’s what we do differently—and effectively:

  • Fully furnish housing units for individuals and families transitioning from crisis to hope.

  • Provide workforce development & individualized employment coaching.

  • Deliver essential housing supports—beds, kitchenware, utility startup, relocation expenses.

  • Walk alongside returning citizens through our trauma-informed reentry housing.

  • Provide community Based services to individuals experiencing chronic homeless in partnership with Community Solutions and Mecklenburg County at the Park at Ferentino in East Charlotte.

  • Maintain a housing retention rate of 98%, powering real transformation.

The True Cost:

  • $750: Assist with furnishings of a basic one-bedroom home.

  • $1,200: Could covers rent, deposit, and supports the cost of utilities.

  • $2,500: Supports a Family on to the Faith of Self-Sufficancy.

Since our inception, and particularly in 2025, BHBC has assisted well over 100 individuals obtain and sustain housing—almost half of whom had exited homelessness and are now crafting new futures in stable homes.

Why Partnerships Matter

BHBC doesn’t work alone. We are part of a vibrant ecosystem of faith institutions and community partners committed to tangible change. Across Charlotte-Mecklenburg, faith-based organizations are stepping up—providing land, capital, buildings, and hands-on support to help deliver affordable housing solutions and services (mecklenburghousingdata.org, SHARE Charlotte).

These partnerships are more than symbolic. They are strategic, compassionate, and effective. Together, we’re creating lasting impact and building a foundation that no one can topple.

Call to Action: Join Our Movement

This Give 8/28, your contribution isn't just a donation—it’s a commitment to dignity, equity, and belonging:

  • $50 helps provide essential household items.

  • $500 equips a home with furniture.

  • $2,500 fully sustains one family in housing and services for a month.

The need is urgent. The cost of letting someone fall through the cracks is far higher than the real cost of supporting them. With over 2,400 people in crisis across our county and unsheltered families growing, we must do more, and we must do it now.

BHBC is forging a pathway to a community where everyone has a safe, stable place to live—and a chance to thrive. But we can’t go it alone. We need faith partners, neighbors, and supporters like you to step up.

Be part of the solution. Be a believer in restoration.Don’t wait. Donate today—and let’s build hope, build commitment, and build stronger futures together.
