Children's Bureau of New Orleans

A nonprofit organization

LOVE.HOPE.HEAL These three words represent the work we've been doing at Children's Bureau of New Orleans for the last 133 years. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for children and families in greater New Orleans through valid and proven programs that enhance and strengthen mental health and wellness.

This year, Children's Bureau of New Orleans is celebrating 133 years of providing services from advocacy to adoption to mental health counseling to children and families in the Greater New Orleans area. As the needs of the community have changed, Children's Bureau has adapted its services to address the areas of greatest need.

Today, we offer community-based, evidence-informed counseling to young people and families impacted by trauma, violence, or loss. Your donation today provides important resources to cover the expense of delivering mental health care to the children and youth in the city who need it most. It allows us to continue offering these important services without any cost to families.

New Orleans children and youth experience traumatic events at rates that far surpass youth in the rest of the country. One local study reports our children are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at rates 4 times higher than children around the country. Another local study reports that 3 in 10 children in New Orleans have witnessed domestic violence; 4 in 10 have witnessed someone shot, stabbed or beaten; and 5 in 10 have had someone close to them murdered.
