Center for Ethical Living & Social Justice Renewal

A nonprofit organization

CELSJR is a catalyst for social, economic, environmental, & racial justice through activism, community engagement, organizing, & transformational learning.

The Center for Ethical Living and Social Justice Renewal was co-created by the three Unitarian Universalist congregations of the Greater New Orleans area. Shortly after the Center's creation it was merged with the New Orleans Rebirth Volunteer Center, which had been created in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the Federal Flood of 2005 with assistance from the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.

The Center serves as a catalyst for social, economic, environmental, and racial justice by inviting everyone who wishes to help into a conversation on systemic racism, white supremacy, and solidarity. The Center works to amplify the voices of communities of color and marginalized communities and to change the conditions in white communities so that these voices can be heard.

We focus on activism, community engagement, organizing, and transformational learning to fulfill our catalyst mission.
