When you think of California, what do you see? Celebrated scenes like our desert super bloom, towering coastal redwoods, and oak woodlands help define what makes California home. Not only do our native plants give us a sense of place, they make California one of the world's biodiversity hotspots. No other state in the U.S. has as many species of native plants as California, and of those, a third are found nowhere else on Earth! Today, these plants and places need our protection amid the pressures of climate change, a growing population, and habitat depletion. The good news is that when we save plants, we save the many creatures that rely on them for survival. That's why CNPS has been working to protect California's native plants and the special places they inhabit since 1965. We are an organization of 35 chapters throughout California and NW Baja, Mexico, with more than 10,000 members and thousands of dedicated volunteers working at the local level to support the CNPS mission.
Reaching young people throughout our diverse communities is key - they are the next generation of plant lovers, scientists and advocates.
You can help! This Big Day of Giving all donations to CNPS will support education initiatives such as research grants & college scholarships, student workshops & training, and elementary school programming. Donate on the Big Day of Giving for a BIG impact on education and the future of California's amazing plants!
