Christian Women's Job Corps of Rusk County

Christian Women's Job Corps of Rusk County exists to empower women to provide for themselves and their families and to motivate women in the Christian community to join in the task of local support and missions.

During this time of upheaval, women in need of literacy and basic life & job preparation skills are the most vulnerable. Outside groups which supply curriculum and support are all using on-line materials. However, until we have better broadband access throughout our large rural county, and funding help for those who cannot afford internet, on-line work will not meet the needs of our students. We have worked creatively to stay in contact with our students, to keep up their personal literacy & literacy within their families, and to help network women with needed survival resources. We have an active ESL Facebook classroom, mail reading lessons which are then posted in our ESL classroom, porch-drop children's books for mothers & grandmothers to read with the children in their homes, provide on-line HSE/GED work, and help network women with community & government resources. We are especially pleased with our Read-With-Me program. Please read more about it under "events". While we are now bringing students back on to campus in small groups, there are still safety concerns and many women are immobilized by fear- fear of the virus & fear of immunization. To continue to meet the needs of women in our community, we are still offering all our off-campus programs. We have many volunteer opportunities which do not fit into the format of this form. Normally we utilize about 50 volunteers a year. Helping women is much more complicated now, but this is a critical time to help women and their families survive and thrive.
